If you live in Korea, you most likely visit some type of Korean kimbap restaurant. I hear from many of my friends that they always order one of three dishes. This is mainly because many of us do not know what they really offer or what these dishes are, so I have decided over the course of the next few months or even possibly a year I will order different items off the menu to show you what most places have to offer. Now each place is a little different and it may not look exactly like my picture but it’s all practically the same, so next time you go to a kimbap place try something new!! I tried to type the names of the food into easy to say sounds… I hope its helpful… As time goes on I will try to add more to it!!!
Of course you know Pork Cutlet (dawn-kas)… They always have this and cheese cutlet too..
This dish is call jae yuk duk bab. This is one of my favorites. It is spicy pork with some vegetables served with rice.
This one is call bu-dae-ji-gae. This is a spicy soup made with many different processed meats, like spam, hot dogs, and hamburger. Great choice for a cold winter day~
Another choice is kimchi fried rice (gim-chi-bok-eum-bab).
Many places have two types of dumplings; Meat or Kimchi. Meat dumplings (go-gi-man-du) and Kimchi dumplings (gim-chi-man-du).
Another great choice is bibim bab. You also have two choices here. You can get it cold or hot. If you like it cold you just order bibim bap or hot you order dol-sot bibim bab.
Here is a good choice for those who do not like spicy food. This is just a basic fried rice wrapped in an egg with a mild sauce on top.
Another one of my favorites is 육개장 Yuk-gae-jang. This is a spicy beef stew. It is filled with meat and veggies with a hot spicy broth. Perfect for winter!!
Like I said, I will try to continue to add things as time goes by….. and I hope you find it useful.. haha.
